Services

Dealer-Level Expertise

Six common service categories, each performed on-site within the San Bernardino Mountains service area. Estimated price ranges shown — see the pricing note below.

01

On-Site Diagnostics

Dealer-level scan platform (Icon T7 — coverage equivalent to ISTA, ODIS, and XENTRY) plus OBD-II equipment, paired with hands-on experience to pinpoint warning lights, drivability issues, electrical faults, and intermittent symptoms — at your driveway. Every visit closes with a fully documented findings report.

Typical: $100 – $350
02

Scheduled Maintenance

Factory-interval service. Oil and filter, brake fluid flush, coolant service, transmission fluid, spark plugs, cabin and engine filters, and a multi-point inspection. Service performed to the manufacturer's published schedule.

Typical: $180 – $900
03

Brake Service

Pad and rotor replacement, brake-fluid flush, electronic parking-brake service, and sensor replacement. OEM, OE-quality, or performance pads available depending on application.

Typical: $400 – $1,600 per axle
04

Cooling System

Water pump, thermostat, expansion tank, hose, and radiator service. Pressure testing and proper bleeding for European cooling systems — including BMW's notoriously specific bleed procedures.

Typical: $300 – $2,500
05

Pre-Purchase Inspection

Comprehensive evaluation before you buy a used European vehicle: scan-tool fault history, fluid condition, brakes, suspension, undercarriage, body condition, and a written summary. Performed at the seller's location within service area.

Typical: $200 – $450
06

Engine & Electrical

From sensor replacement and timing service to complex driveability and electrical diagnosis. Heavy-duty work — transmission, engine, or front-end removal — can be scheduled when the customer can provide adequate workspace. Module coding is not offered; coding work is referred to a dealership.

Typical: $300 – $5,000+
About these prices. The figures above are estimated ranges only, intended to give a sense of what mobile European service typically costs. Final pricing depends on the specific vehicle, the year and engine, parts availability, the scope of the actual work, and travel distance within the mountain service area. A firm written estimate is provided before any repair begins, and no work is performed without your authorization.

The San Bernardino Mountains present specific challenges for European vehicles: long elevation changes (sea-level valley to 5,000+ feet on the rim), cold-soak mornings in winter, snow exposure, and steep grades that punish brakes and cooling systems. Service work performed locally — without a 90-minute drive down the 18 or the 330 to a valley dealership — keeps the vehicle on the mountain and saves a day.

Down the hill, most of the Inland Empire is in regular rotation: San Bernardino, Highland, Redlands, Yucaipa, Loma Linda, Colton, Rialto, Fontana, Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario, Upland, Chino, Chino Hills, Riverside, Moreno Valley, and Corona — plus surrounding communities. Outlying locations beyond these areas are accommodated case-by-case depending on the job and the schedule. Severe weather, road closures on the Rim of the World Highway, or snow chain requirements may shift scheduled appointments to the next safe window.

About

Unsurpassed In The Area

Vorsprung Garage is owner-operated by Maksim Yakovlev — over a decade behind the wrench, learned on German cars, and built on a real passion for diagnostics. The hard problems are the interesting ones: the intermittent fault no one's pinned down, the warning light that came back after the parts cannon, the drivability quirk that doesn't show up on a generic code reader. That's the work he goes looking for.

"Dealer-level expertise without the dealership wait — and without sending your car down the mountain."

Focus is BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Volkswagen, and Mini — but the same diagnostic discipline applies to any make or model. Mobile service means the shop comes to your driveway, which solves two problems unique to mountain living. First, the nearest authorized European dealership is a 45-to-90-minute drive each way, plus the wait. Second, many residents simply prefer not to drive a vehicle with an active fault down a winding mountain road. The mobile model is built around that.

One technician means no service writer translating, no rotating crew of techs, no incentive to upsell — you talk directly to the person performing the work. Heavy-duty jobs (engine, transmission, or front-end removal) can be scheduled when there's adequate workspace at the customer's location; module coding and dealer-only flashing are referred to a dealership rather than guessed at. The goal is the right repair done the right way.

Scope

What We Don't Do

Premium positioning means knowing where the line is. These jobs are referred out — by design.

Tire mounting & balancing — referred to a shop with a mount/balance machine.
Body work or paint — collision and cosmetic work is referred to a body shop.
Transmission rebuilds — transmission removal yes, internal rebuilds go to a transmission specialist.
Module coding & dealer flashing — referred to a dealership rather than guessed at.
Cheap aftermarket guessing — OEM-spec parts and fluids only; no race-to-the-bottom substitutes.
"Parts cannon" diagnostics — no throwing parts at a fault. Diagnose first, replace what's actually broken.
Common Diagnoses

Common Problems We Diagnose

A sample of the kinds of faults Vorsprung Garage sees regularly across European platforms.

BMW coolant leaks — expansion tanks, water pumps, thermostats.
Audi oil consumption — root-cause investigation, not just top-up.
Mercedes suspension faults — Airmatic, adaptive damping, control arms.
Porsche cooling system repairs — water-cooled flat-six and V8 cooling work.
Check-engine light diagnostics — fault codes, freeze-frame, live data, road-test confirmation.
Parasitic electrical draws — battery-killing drains traced to the module.
Misfires & drivability issues — coils, plugs, injectors, fuel trim diagnosis.
Overheating diagnosis — pressure testing, thermal imaging, head-gasket evaluation.
Timing chain & tensioner noise — chain guides, tensioners, VANOS/cam-phaser faults.
FAQ

Common Questions

What areas do you serve?
Vorsprung Garage serves Lake Arrowhead and the surrounding San Bernardino Mountain communities — Blue Jay, Crestline, Cedar Glen, Twin Peaks, Rimforest, Skyforest, Running Springs, Lake Gregory, and Cedarpines Park — plus most of the Inland Empire, including San Bernardino, Highland, Redlands, Yucaipa, Loma Linda, Colton, Rialto, Fontana, Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario, Upland, Chino, Chino Hills, Riverside, Moreno Valley, and Corona. Outlying locations beyond these areas are accommodated case-by-case based on travel time and the scope of the job.
Which vehicle brands do you work on?
European brands are the specialty: BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Volkswagen, and Mini — but Vorsprung Garage works on all makes and models with the same expertise. Other European marques and non-European vehicles are accepted on a case-by-case basis.
How does mobile auto repair actually work?
After an initial phone or text consultation, a service window is scheduled and the technician travels to your home or workplace with diagnostic equipment, tools, and most common parts. Diagnostic work, scheduled maintenance, brake service, fluid services, and many repairs can be completed on-site. Repairs that require a lift, specialty press tools, alignment equipment, or extensive disassembly are coordinated separately.
How much does a typical service cost?
A mobile diagnostic visit is typically $100 – $350. Scheduled maintenance runs from roughly $180 for a basic oil-and-filter service to $900+ for a major-interval service on a performance European vehicle. Brake service is typically $400 – $1,600 per axle. These are estimated ranges only — final pricing depends on the specific vehicle, parts availability, service complexity, and travel distance. A firm written estimate is provided before any repair begins.
Do you do pre-purchase inspections?
Yes. Pre-purchase inspections cover scan-tool fault history, fluid condition, brakes, suspension, visible mechanical and body inspection, and a written summary. Inspections at the seller's location are accommodated within the broader San Bernardino Mountains area; longer travel may add cost.
What information should I have ready when I call?
Have the vehicle's year, make, model, and approximate mileage ready, plus a description of the symptom or service needed. If a warning light is on, the exact wording or icon helps. Your service location and any access constraints (gated community, narrow driveway) speed scheduling.
Are repairs done at altitude or in cold weather a problem?
The San Bernardino Mountains routinely see cold mornings, snow, and altitudes above 5,000 feet. Vorsprung Garage is equipped and experienced with mountain-climate service — including cooling-system pressure work, battery service in cold weather, and timing of work around storm windows. Severe weather may require rescheduling for safety.
Do you offer a warranty on repairs?
Most work carries a 90-day / 5,000-mile workmanship warranty, documented in writing at the time of service. Parts warranties depend on the manufacturer. Call for warranty details specific to the work you need.
How do I get a quote or schedule service?
Call or text (909) 273-5159, or email info@vorsprunggarage.com. Standard scheduling hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 AM – 5 PM; messages received before or after hours may receive a response outside that window. The business is operated by owner Maksim Yakovlev. This website is informational only — the most reliable way to schedule service or get a firm quote is direct contact by phone, text, or email.
Service Details

Per-Service Questions

Specifics on each of the six core services — the questions customers most often ask before booking.

On-Site Diagnostics

What scan tools do you use?
An Icon T7 dealer-level scan platform handles most work — coverage equivalent to BMW ISTA, Audi/VW ODIS, and Mercedes-Benz XENTRY — alongside OBD-II equipment. That means fault codes, freeze-frame data, live module data, and bidirectional tests that generic code readers cannot perform. Module coding and dealer flashing are not offered; coding work is referred to a dealership.
Can a mobile diagnostic find what a dealership would find?
For electronic faults, drivability issues, and most warning lights, yes — the diagnostic tooling and procedure are the same. The differences are physical: a dealership has a lift, an alignment rack, and specialty press tools that a mobile visit does not. If the diagnosis points to a repair that genuinely needs those, that is identified up front and coordinated separately.
How long does a typical diagnostic visit take?
Most diagnostic visits run between one and three hours on-site, depending on the complexity of the fault and whether a road test is required. Intermittent electrical issues may take longer or require a follow-up. Every visit closes with a fully documented findings report — what was checked, what was found, and what is recommended.

Scheduled Maintenance

Can scheduled maintenance be performed on-site without voiding my warranty?
Under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, an independent specialist can perform manufacturer-scheduled maintenance using OEM or equivalent-spec parts and fluids without voiding a new-vehicle warranty. Vorsprung Garage performs service to the manufacturer's published schedule and provides a written record of work performed, parts used, and mileage at the time of service.
Which fluids and filters do you use for European service?
OEM or OE-equivalent fluids meeting the manufacturer's specification — BMW Longlife-04, MB 229.5, VW 502 00 / 504 00, Porsche A40, and equivalents — and OEM, Mahle, Mann, Hengst, or equivalent OE-quality filters. Specific brand selection is discussed before service so the customer knows exactly what is going into the car.
Can you perform major-interval services like a BMW Inspection II or Mercedes Service B?
Yes. Major-interval factory services — including BMW Inspection I/II, Mercedes-Benz Service A/B, Audi/VW 40k and 80k services, and Porsche minor/major services — are performed on-site to the manufacturer's checklist. These visits take longer than a basic oil-and-filter service and are scheduled accordingly.

Brake Service

Do you replace pads only, or pads and rotors together?
It depends on rotor condition and manufacturer specification. Many European vehicles use rotors designed to be replaced with each pad set; in those cases, pads-only is a short-term repair that compromises braking performance. Rotors are measured against the manufacturer's minimum thickness and discard specs and a recommendation is made before any work begins.
Can you service electronic parking brakes on-site?
Yes. Electronic parking-brake retraction and reset is supported on BMW, Audi, VW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and Mini using the appropriate scan tool. Attempting to push back an EPB caliper without entering service mode will damage the actuator, so the correct procedure is non-negotiable on these systems.
What brake pad options are available?
OEM pads or OE-quality equivalents, with performance compounds available where the vehicle and use case justify them. Specific brand selection is discussed before service. Wear sensors are replaced as required by the system.

Cooling System

Can a BMW cooling system really be bled properly in a driveway?
Yes. The bleed procedure for BMW, Audi, VW, and Mercedes-Benz cooling systems is a software-driven sequence — electric water-pump activation, thermostat cycling, and bleed-screw venting in a specific order — and is performed using the same scan tool the dealer uses. The job is not about a special location; it's about following the correct sequence with the correct tool.
Do you pressure-test the cooling system before and after repair?
Yes. A pressure test before the repair confirms the source of the leak. After the repair, a second pressure test and a thermal soak verify that the system holds pressure cold and hot, and that the new components are sealing under operating conditions.
What coolant do you use in European vehicles?
Manufacturer-specified coolant only — BMW/Mini LL coolant, VW/Audi G12evo or G13, Mercedes-Benz MB 325.x, and Porsche-specific blends. Mixing the wrong coolant chemistry causes electrolysis and gasket damage in European systems, so the correct chemistry is non-negotiable.

Pre-Purchase Inspection

What does a pre-purchase inspection include?
Scan-tool fault history across all modules (including stored and intermittent codes), fluid condition and level assessment, brake pad and rotor measurement, suspension and steering inspection, undercarriage and body condition review, tire condition and DOT-date check, and a written summary. The goal is enough information to make an informed buying decision.
Can you perform a PPI at a private seller's home or a dealer lot?
Yes — both. Pre-purchase inspections are performed at the seller's location within the service area. For private-party sales the visit is straightforward; for dealer lots the dealer's authorization is typically required and most reputable dealers cooperate willingly. Travel beyond the standard service area may add cost.
Will a PPI give me a buy or don't-buy recommendation?
The PPI summary categorizes findings as urgent, near-term, or normal-wear, and identifies anything that would meaningfully affect the value of the vehicle. The buying decision belongs to the buyer, but the report is written to make that decision an informed one. Contact us for estimated repair costs on anything the inspection flags.

Engine & Electrical

What kinds of engine and electrical repairs can be done on-site?
Sensor replacement, ignition coils, spark plugs, intake manifold service, valve cover gaskets on most engines, alternator and starter replacement, battery service, wiring repair, and most CAN-bus diagnosis. Heavy-duty work — transmission removal, engine removal, or extensive front-end disassembly — can be scheduled when the customer can provide adequate space for the work. Module coding and dealer programming are not offered.
Can you do timing chain or timing belt service on-site?
For most vehicles, yes — timing chain and timing belt service can be scheduled on-site, provided the customer can supply adequate space for the work. Specific tooling requirements and the time commitment are confirmed vehicle-by-vehicle before the appointment.
Do you offer module coding or dealer programming?
No. Vorsprung Garage does not perform module coding, software flashing, or dealer programming. The scan platform is used for diagnostic work — fault codes, live data, bidirectional tests. Diagnostic findings that end in a coding requirement are clearly identified and referred to a dealership.
